The War Between Truth & Stupid

I was over at atheist Ranting about Politics and Religion’s blog. He had a 4th of July quote from former slave Frederick Douglass:

““What, to the American slave, is your 4th of July? I answer: a day that reveals to him, more than all other days in the year, the gross injustice and cruelty to which he is the constant victim. To him, your celebration is a sham; your boasted liberty, an unholy license; your national greatness, swelling vanity; your sounds of rejoicing are empty and heartless; your denunciations of tyrants, brass fronted impudence; your shouts of liberty and equality, hollow mockery; your prayers and hymns, your sermons and thanksgivings, with all your religious parade, and solemnity, are, to him, mere bombast, fraud, deception, impiety, and hypocrisy — a thin veil to cover up crimes which would disgrace a nation of savages. There is not a nation on the earth guilty of practices, more shocking and bloody, than are the people of these United States, at this very hour.”

This, obviously to support the leftist screed that America is a horrible, racist country founded on the backs of slaves.

I caused an absolute uproar when I stated the fact that the slaver South was Democrat and the post Civil War Ku Klux Klan and Jim Crow were all Democrat all the time. Their counter argument, once obviously taught to them in the public schools was that the the Democrat and Republican parties exchanged beliefs. That makes as much sense as you and I exchanging beliefs, I replied to them. I called the notion that two people or factions with ingrained diametrically opposed beliefs magically changing positions, stupid.

I also caused an uproar by stating the fact that Senator Robert Byrd who served in the Senate from 1959 to 2010, was a member of the KKK. In fact he was a Grand Wizard in the KKK. This bit of damning evidence proved that the Democrat Party has always been racist. And since Senator Robert Byrd was the most prominent Democrat Senator of his time, he represented the racist Democrat Party establishment.

The demands for evidence of my outrageous claim reached fever pitch. So I provided a link to an article about Senator Byrd published in the leftist, Salon. That article told about Byrd’s time in the KKK and the various leadership positions he held. For my trouble I was called a liar and a stupid ass, no further argument on their part necessary.

What became evident during my conversation with the leftists at RaPaR’s blog is the irreconcilable divide in the United States between those who accept the primacy of knowledge and those who fanatically believe a set of myths programmed into them by the media and the public education system. I think it is evident that for all practical purposes, the United States is in a state of civil war.

    Perhaps a philosophical/ideological and political “civil unrest” for sure.
    I wandered over to that RaPar blog from your link to check it out. They indeed are not too appreciative of your politics over there. My similar experience when I post on Conservative blogs. No room for old school Republicans, or Independents, in Trump World blogs. No room for “moderates” on either side.

    So… if we are in a state of civil war as you suggest, where do we go from here?

      First, thanks for dropping by. Second, I have a completely different take on politics, or any subject for that matter, than you do.

      For example, I opine that there is no such thing as left or right or moderate or independent. There is only true or false; or what works and what doesn’t work, all based on the laws of nature. The challenge is working toward the truth when it is not clearly understandable or completely possible.

      And your take on the intolerance you experienced at the various blogs speaks to the point of my post here. War results when two opposing, irreconcilable factions compete for supremacy. Knowledge and stupidity are competing for supremacy in America and the West today.

      Brandon is using his DOJ and FBI to rough up Trump supporters, and parents who question his regime’s wishes at local school board meetings. J6ers are incarcerated for months due to misdemeanor charges while hardened criminals are allowed back on the streets to murder policemen and rob average citizens blind.

      Brandon’s use of state force against his political enemies is a harbinger of things to come. That could lead to mass social unrest and/or kinetic warfare.

    Interesting remark. Different take on politics I can understand… “…or any subject, for that matter.” seems a bit presumptuous maybe?
    I sense you enjoy the debate, the sparring. You need a definitive admission between right and wrong… just from your own admission here with me. No right or wrong to that.. we all have perspectives, from our perspectives. I tend to be more a humanist.. perhaps a bigger picture perspective. Doesn’t make me any more right or wrong.

    I will agree… the country is in a world of hurts right now for a myriad of things…. of which Biden’s performance thus far is the usual political objections every sitting president faces from their opposition. The divide is not a thing to do with Biden because it existed before he arrived.

    My take.. if things turn “kinetic” there will be no going back.. for anyone.

    I’m not that into politics, especially American politics. But if both left and right are trying not to be labelled as “the racist party” that’s a great thing that should be celebrated.

      What we call the Extreme Left and the Extreme Right are the same thing. There is not a dime’s worth of difference between Nazis and Communists. Both represent ideological schemes for achieving totalitarian dominance by dividing and conquering the citizenry.

      Since neither Communists or Nazis have given up being racists, that leaves us with a question. Who is applying the racist label, and why are people trying to avoid the racist label? Communist and their sympathizers wish to label anyone who opposes them as evil white supremacists. Why? During WWII, communists and their sympathizers succeeded in labeling their main competitor as the epitome of evil, and Nazis were undeniably racists. Therefore, when it is possible, Communists find it quite convenient to label their political opponent’s white supremacists.

        I agree from the perspective of they both cause the so much harm. I wouldn’t say that to anyone on the extreme left or right if I was you though as they would get lost in the details. Political discussions often turn toxic so quickly, which is why I tend to avoid them.

        Simply dismissing people and labelling them without understanding their views is pretty terrible, and I find people on both sides doing it. Trying to understand where the other person is coming from is probably the most helpful thing for having better discussions.

        When we speak about people across the political spectrum, the terms Left and Right are meaningless. As a purely practical matter, it makes more sense to define the political spectrum using a different variable, the amount of government control. Then at one extreme we have Nazis and Communists and at the other extreme we have anarchists. That puts moderates where we belong, somewhere between the two extremes.

        Why do political discussions often turn toxic? Sometimes we have honest disagreements, but these days we often misunderstand each other because devious and foolish people run our education system, including teaching us the words we use to discuss politics. Hence, most of us don’t understand politics. We don’t even understand how to talk about politics or why we should.

        On your blog I noticed you talk about religion. If you think a discussion of religion is important, then you should think politics highly important and worthy of discussion. Consider. When we propagate our religious beliefs, what we are allowed to say and write depends upon the political system under which we live.

    My Response — What you stated is accurate but I fear it is missing a crucial component. Even knowledge is relative since the facts it is based on are dependent on the history and science taught. The skills acquired by that knowledge create division.

    This is to say that we will need more than knowledge to remove the divide.

      I tend to agree with Mr. Lander. Our divide is not about a competition for knowledge, nor would this division, or rather this political conflict centering around the absence of a common acceptance of truth and fact, be resolved applying knowledge. It’s about reaching an understanding, not one side winning or the other surrendering, that unless humans figure out a way to live together then people will ultimately die in whatever ensuing violence arises. American humans will be losing what it once meant being American.
